The sustainable bioeconomy is gaining growing recognition as a vital pathway to addressing interconnected global challenges and driving transformative change across sectors. In this context, the Environment Management Group (EMG) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) are co-organizing a two-part Nexus Dialogue series on Sustainable Bioeconomy.
The dialogues will explore how a sustainable bioeconomy can help tackle pressing environmental issues such as climate change and biodiversity loss, while also examining opportunities to enhance global coordination, secure financing, and build effective partnerships.
These events will convene UN agencies, regional organizations, private sector actors, civil society, research institutions, and experts in environmental governance and policy. The outcomes will inform efforts to map existing initiatives, identify priorities and gaps, strengthen cross-sectoral dialogue, and lay the groundwork for a potential joint UN approach to the sustainable bioeconomy, ensuring inclusive engagement, particularly with marginalized groups.

Co-organized by the EMG and FAO, the first event in this two-part series –“Strengthening Global Coordination, Building Partnerships, and Financing for a Sustainable Bioeconomy” -will be held on Friday, 9 May 2025, from 15:00 to 16:30 CEST via Microsoft Teams.
This dialogue will explore pathways toward a more cohesive approach to sustainable bioeconomy across UN agencies, identifying gaps and synergies among current initiatives. Discussions will focus on addressing regulatory and governance challenges, promoting equitable access to bioeconomy innovations, and advancing sustainable financing solutions, with particular attention to the needs of low- and middle-income countries.
The dialogue is expected to contribute to mapping existing initiatives, identification of policy priorities and needs, strengthening dialogue and exploring a possible UN-approach to sustainable bioeconomy.
The outcomes of this event will also contribute to an ongoing consultation process, led by FAO, aimed at potentially establishing a global, multistakeholder partnership on bioeconomy for sustainable food and agriculture.
Attendance by invitation only. Please contact the EMG Secretariat ([email protected]) for more information.
