In 2020 the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) will adopt a Post-2020 global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) as a successor to the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity, 2011-2020. This GBF will be a stepping-stone towards achieving the CBD 2050 Vision of ‘Living in harmony with nature’ (outlined in decision 10/2). A comprehensive and participatory process to prepare the Post-2020 GBF was adopted in decision 14/34.

This meeting took place on 26 August 2019, in Nairobi, Kenya in the margins of the first meeting of the Open-Ended Working Group on Post-2020 Biodiversity Strategic Framework, 27-29 August 2019.
At EMG SOM25 the EMG Senior Officials agreed to the establishment of an inter-agency Consultative Process on the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework. It is intended to prepare a system-wide contribution to the development and implementation of the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework. Agencies have since responded to a call from UNEP ED and Chair of the EMG, Inger Anderson, by nominating their focal points.
The Consultative Process will meet for the first time in the margins of the 23rd meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice, November 25th-29th, in Montreal, Canada. The meeting will take place from 8-11 AM (EST) on November 29th.
